Delivered by Jesus

Due to God’s mercy, I did not turn on the lights...

Once while in the Army I was accepted into pilot training. On the way to the new base in California, I had to stay in a motel along the way.

It was cold out there every night summer or winter. I noticed the iron heater that appeared to be steam heat. The heater was shaped just exactly as the ones that provide steam heat. I turned the valve to turn on the heat and I could hear a noise that sounded like steam entering the heater.

I laid down, turned off the lights and was almost asleep when I smelled natural gas. I rose up and fortunately, due to God’s mercy, did not turn on the lights which would have exploded the room where I was. I opened the doors, windows, and aired the place out.

Later I lit the heater and slept the rest of the night. (1943)

God intervened and I have lived to tell this story about his protecting hand on my life.
